192 candidates to run in Shahjalal Varsity CSU elections

Sylhet, Dec 7 —A total of 192 candidates will contest the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Central Students’ Union (SUCSU) and hall union elections scheduled on January 20, 2026.

The Chief Election Commissioner, Professor Dr. Abul Mukit Mohammad Mokaddes, published the list on the SUCSU website on Sunday.

According to the list, 106 candidates will contest the central parliament elections, while 86 candidates will run for the hall parliaments of the university’s six residential halls.

For the central, four candidates have submitted nomination papers for the post of Vice President (VP) and seven for General Secretary (GS). There are five candidates for Assistant General Secretary (AGS), two for Sports Secretary, and four for Assistant Sports Secretary.

Other nominations include two candidates for Literary and Annual Secretary, four for Cultural Secretary, two for Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary, four for Religion and Harmony Secretary, three for Social Services Secretary, three for Student Affairs Secretary, four for Health and Environment Secretary, five each for Education, Research and Career Development Secretary, Information and Technology Secretary, and International Affairs Secretary, four for Transport Affairs Secretary, two for Cafeteria and Canteen Affairs, and six for Law and Human Rights Affairs Secretary. Additionally, 26 candidates are contesting for general Member posts.

The list also includes 86 candidates for the six hall parliaments.

After nearly 28 years, elections will be held for 23 central union posts and nine hall union posts, with voting scheduled for January 20, 2026. - UNB
