The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a Tk 13.20 crore project to upgrade internet connectivity at the University of Rajshahi (RU), clearing the proposal without any changes.

According to an RU press release issued on Friday, the project, titled "Strengthening Internet Connectivity in the University of Rajshahi (RU)," will be implemented as a sub-project under the UGC's Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project.

The initiative aims to provide high-speed internet access across the university's academic and administrative buildings, residential halls, dormitories and staff residential areas.

University authorities said the improved network will facilitate faster communication and more efficient exchange of information and research data with institutions at home and abroad, strengthening education and research activities.

The release said the project aligns with the government's commitment to expanding internet access and reaffirmed the university's commitment to ensuring reliable high-speed internet and other essential facilities on campus.

The university also noted that development projects are institutional initiatives and should not be attributed to any individual or organisation. It added that recent attempts by various groups to claim credit for university development projects are undesirable, reports BSS.
