KUET student drowns in campus pond

A student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) drowned in a pond adjacent to Khan Jahan Ali Hall on the university campus this afternoon.


The deceased was identified as S M Sayem Ferdous, 23, a 2024-batch student of the Architecture Discipline, KUET Public Relations Office sources confirmed.

He was the son of Md Abdus Samad of the Dilalpur PK Saha Road area in Pabna district.

According to university sources, Sayem Ferdous went missing while swimming in the pond this afternoon.

Following the incident, fellow students and eyewitnesses immediately informed the authorities. A diving team from the Fire Service conducted a rescue operation and recovered him from the water.

He was rushed to a local hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

After receiving the news, KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Masud, Director of Student Welfare, hall provosts, registrar and other senior university officials rushed to the spot and later visited the hospital.

The university authorities expressed deep shock and sorrow over the incident and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.

The vice-chancellor prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and assured the family of all necessary assistance from the university administration, reports BSS.

The tragic incident cast a pall of gloom over the entire KUET campus.
