Gold Price Hits Record Tk1.86 Lakh per Bhori

The price of gold has surged to an all-time high in Bangladesh, reaching around Tk1.86 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams).

Jewellers increased the rate by Tk3,137 to Tk1,85,947 per bhori following a rise in the local price of pure gold.

The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) approved the new rates at a meeting on Tuesday. On Monday, gold had already hit a record Tk1,82,810 per bhori.

Under the new decision, 22-carat gold will cost Tk15,942 per gram, 21-carat Tk15,218 per gram, 18-carat Tk13,044 per gram, and traditional gold Tk10,815 per gram, according to a release signed by committee chairman Masudur Rahman.

The new rates will come into effect on Wednesday.

Silver prices, however, remain unchanged: 22-carat silver Tk241 per gram, 21-carat Tk230, 18-carat Tk197, and traditional silver Tk148 per gram.

Buyers will also have to pay a 5% VAT imposed by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge set by BAJUS, which may vary depending on design and quality.
