Sylhet, April 25 – Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday detained a Bangladeshi stone worker from the border area of Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet.

The detainee was identified as Ekhlas Uddin, 27, son of Bilal Uddin from Noyagatti village under Nijpat union of the upazila.

Lt Col Nazmul Haque, commanding officer of Sylhet Battalion (Border Guard Bangladesh-48), said they formally raised the matter with the BSF on Friday.

In response, the Indian force confirmed that Ekhlas had been handed over to the Dawki police.

He is currently in their custody, added Lt Col Nazmul.

According to local sources, on Thursday, Ekhlas and several other workers went to collect stones from the bordering Shreepur stone quarry using ‘barki’ boats from the Balughat area in Bangla Bazar.

Around 1:30 pm, the boats reportedly entered Indian territory near border pillar 1280/1-S.

While most workers managed to flee as the BSF patrol approached, Ekhlas was detained and taken away by the Indian force. - UNB
