49 biochemists, molecular biologists felicitated

Graduate Biochemist Association (GBA) has awarded to 49 biochemists, molecular biologists of country's different universities for their voluntary service during Covid-19 pandemic.

The volunteers were awarded with crests and certificates at a reception at Kamaluddin Ahmed Lecture Gallery of Dhaka University's Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department, chaired by GBA President Professor Dr Hossain Uddin Shekhar.

Besides, six people who trained up frontline healthcare volunteers and 16 others for their voluntary acts were also awarded on the occasion, organised by GBA.

The biochemists and molecular biologists assisted the medical staffs and technicians in a number of ways including biosafety, biosecurity, collecting samples, processing samples, diagnosing, and identifying Covid-19 through RT-PCR test at different hospitals across the country.

Independence Award winning scientist Dr Haseena Khan, former Vice Chancellor of Comilla University Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury and Professor Yearul Kabir and others eminent personalities were present during the programme, conducted by GBA General Secretary Abu Saeed Muhammad Shamim.

Besides, Professor Dr Ferdausi Qadri and Professor Dr Haseena Khan were awarded for winning the Ramon Magsaysay Award-2021, and BASIS Luna Shamsuddoha Award-2021 respectively, reports BSS.
