Former spokesperson and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Md Mezbaul Haque has resigned from his post.

Bangladesh Bank’s spokesperson and Executive Director Arief Hossain said Mezbaul submitted his resignation on Tuesday citing personal reasons.

He said his resignation will come into effect on October 14.

Mezbaul Haque is currently serving as the Executive Director of the central bank’s Rajshahi office.

Following the fall of the Awami League government, questions were raised over his continuation in the post as he was considered close to then Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder.

Later, he was transferred from the head office to the Rajshahi office.

Mezbaul had long been in charge of several key departments of Bangladesh Bank, including Payment Systems, IT and Offsite Supervision.

In December 2022, he was appointed as Executive Director and spokesperson of the central bank.

In September 2024, he was relieved of the spokesperson’s role and another Executive Director, Husne Ara Shikha, was appointed as spokesperson.
