BB governor meets National Bank chairman, acting MD

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman today held a meeting with National Bank PLC Chairman Prof Dr Melita Mehjabin and Acting Managing Director Jahidul Haque to review the bank's liquidity situation and measures to ensure smooth withdrawal of depositors' funds.


The meeting was held at Bangladesh Bank headquarters, said a press release. 

Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, Md Sarwar Hossain and Md Anichur Rahman were also present.

During the meeting, the National Bank chairman apprised the governor of the steps taken recently by Bangladesh Bank, saying the measures have helped ensure good governance in the bank.

She also highlighted positive changes in the bank's overall management aimed at enhancing its efficiency and operational capacity.

The Bangladesh Bank governor discussed the current liquidity situation of National Bank PLC and the demand of depositors for withdrawal of their funds.

He stressed the need for protecting the interests of depositors, maintaining public confidence in the banking system and ensuring uninterrupted banking operations.

The governor instructed the National Bank authorities to take necessary measures to facilitate withdrawal of deposits by all depositors according to their requirements.

He also directed all branches and ATM booths of National Bank PLC to ensure adequate cash availability from October 15, 2026, so that depositors can withdraw money smoothly according to their needs.

The Bangladesh Bank governor emphasised that the measures should help safeguard depositors' interests while maintaining public confidence and ensuring normal banking operations, reports BSS.
