Marking International Women’s Day, the Russian House in Dhaka organised a special painting master class titled “Great Women” on Thursday in collaboration with the Serov Academy of Fine Arts.
The event brought together nearly a hundred students from different educational institutions across the capital, providing a lively platform for artistic expression and inspiration.
During the session, participants created portraits and artistic interpretations of influential women who have made significant contributions to society. Among the figures portrayed was Valentina Tereshkova, the first female cosmonaut of the former Soviet Union and a global symbol of courage and achievement.
Students also painted Begum Rokeya, a pioneer of women’s education and a leading advocate of women’s empowerment in Bengal.
Many participants chose to depict inspiring women from their personal lives as well, including their mothers, teachers and other influential figures in their families. Through their artworks, students expressed admiration and gratitude for the women who shape their lives and communities.
The programme highlighted the creativity of young participants and encouraged them to explore art as a medium for celebrating women’s achievements and contributions to society.
Organisers said the “Great Women” painting master class aimed not only to nurture artistic skills but also to underline the importance of recognising women’s roles in history, education, science and everyday life.
The Russian House in Dhaka regularly arranges cultural and educational programmes designed to promote artistic development and strengthen people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and Russia.
