Over 5,000 motorcyclists rally for Cumilla division status

Cumilla, Oct 17 : Over 5,000 motorcyclists took to the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, demanding the creation of Cumilla Division, on Friday.

The rally began in front of Hotel Nurjahan at Paduar Bazar, Bishwaroad, Cumilla, after Jumma prayers.

Young riders from various areas gathered in large numbers, turning the highway stretch into a vibrant assembly of thousands of bikers within an hour.

Participants chanted slogans like, “Our demand is one, We want a division named Cumilla”.

Some waved the national flag, while others expressed solidarity with cheers and chants, making the rally a colorful spectacle. Local residents and shopkeepers lined the streets to welcome the procession.

Engineer Shihab Uddin and Nur Mohammad Majumdar, taking part in the rally, emphasized Cumilla’s historical significance as the ancient capital of the region. They said that whenever the creation of the division approaches, conspiracies arise from various quarters.

Cumilla currently hosts 42 regional offices of six districts, including Noakhali and Greater Cumilla, underscoring its administrative importance.

The participants urged the government to immediately establish a division named Cumilla to honor its heritage and administrative role. - UNB
