Woman, daughter die as speed boat overturns in Bay of Bengal

A 35-year-old woman and her minor daughter were killed as a speedboat overturned in  the Bay of Bengal in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Monday.


The deceased were identified as Mariam Khatun and her five-year-old daughter Mahima of East para of Saint Martin.

Foyzul Islam, chairman of Saint Martin Union, said the speedboat carrying the woman and her daughter from Saint Martin turned turtle due to strong current while they were heading towards Teknaf upazila.

Another speedboat rescued them and took them to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where they were declared dead, reports UNB. 

Rakib Hasan Chowdhury, Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer and assistant commissioner (land), said they are investigating the deaths.
