Two people were killed in a road accident in front of Deohata overbridge under Mirzapur upazila of the district this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Rahij Sikder, 46, son of Azim Uddin of Ranashal village in Gorai union, and Abdul Hamid, 60, son of Azgar Ali of Deohata village in Mirzapur upazila.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Tangail highway when a Tangail-bound bus hit an autorickshaw, leaving its driver and passenger critically injured. They were taken to Kumudini Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Mirzapur Gorai Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sohel Sarwar said the autorickshaw driver tried to enter the overbridge from the opposite lane when the speeding bus collided with it, reports BSS.

The bodies will be handed over to their families after completion of legal formalities, he added.
