Four Dead, Four Injured in Jamalpur Road Crash



Four people were killed and four others injured when a covered van collided with a battery-run rickshaw on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway in Sadar Upazila, Jamalpur district on Monday.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Rashed, 32, Chan Mia, 62, and Arifa Akter Puli, 25. The identity of the fourth victim is yet to be confirmed.

The accident took place at Adarsha Bottala, in front of Jamalpur Economic Zone, around 12:45 pm, when the covered van rammed the rickshaw. One person died on the spot while four others were injured, said Nazmus Sakib, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

The injured were taken to Jamalpur General Hospital, where doctors declared three more dead. Two others were transferred to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the covered van fled the scene, and police have yet to apprehend him.
