Chuadanga, July 4 --Rail communication between Khulna and the rest of the country was snapped after a Chuadanga-bound freight train derailed near Utholi railway station in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga on Friday.
The derailment occurred on Friday around 5:30 pm on the main line heading towards Darshana, about 100 yards from Utholi station.
Eyewitnesses said that a freight train from Khulna was heading towards Chuadanga. As the train crossed the crossing at Utholi station and entered the main line, one of the last bogies—used as a rest area for railway workers—suddenly derailed.
The incident resulted in the suspension of rail communication with Khulna via other routes across the country.
Utholi Railway Station Master Mintu Roy stated, “The incident has been reported to senior officials of the Pakshi Railway Division. A relief train has been dispatched to the scene, and rescue operations are underway.”
"Rail communication will not return to normal until the rescue operations are completed" he added. - UNB
