Road crashes kill five including siblings in Moulvibazar

Road crashes claimed lives of five people including two brothers during the Eid day and the day after in this northeastern district in three such accidents all involving motorbikes, police and witnesses said today.


They said the two brothers, one being an expatriate of Saudi Arabia, were killed in a motorbike crash on the Eid day as he was on his way to a relative’s home along with his brother carrying meats of their sacrificial animal.  

According to the police 26-year old Saudi expatriate Sahed Hossain Sumon was killed instantly on the Eid day as he was heading towards his father-in-law’s home in their motorbike along with his brother Rumon Ahmed, who was fatally wounded and died hours later on the same day.

Rumon Ahmed was rushed to nearby Barolekha Upazila Health Complex which referred him to better equipped MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital in Sylhet. 

The accident occurred at Kathaltoli area on Barolekha-Kulaura regional highway on Saturday evening when a private car collided head on with their bike on Saturday evening while Barolekha police station chief Abul Kashem Sarkar said they seized the car but its driver went into hiding.

 Another two youths, Jubed Miah and Kamrul Miah, were killed as their motorbikes collided head on at Kacharibazar area on Moulvibazar-Shamshernagar road during the Eid day as well.

Another youth Mahbub Miah, who was in one of the bikes, survived the crash but with critical wounds that required his admission at Osmani Medical College Hospital.

 Police said in a third such accident killed an unidentified motorcyclist when his bike was hit head on by a battery-driven van at Satgaon crossing under Srimongal upazila on June 8.

The injured motorcyclist was rushed to nearby Srimongal Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor Kishore Podder declared him dead, reports BSS.
