Saidur Rahman (47), Assistant Engineer of the Jhalokathi Zilla Parishad , was killed in a tragic road accident on Saturday night in Nalchhiti upazila.

The incident took place around 8pm in the Dhapor area on the Jhalokathi-Barishal regional highway, when his motorcycle crashed into a tree by the roadside, said Abdus Salam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchhiti Police Station.

Saidur Rahman, originally from Kachipara in Bauphal upazila, Patuakhali district, had been living in a rented house in front of the Jhalokathi municipality office with his wife, a primary school teacher, and their two young children.

According to police and local sources, the accident took place while he was returning to Jhalokathi from Barishal. Losing control of the motorcycle, he slammed into a tree, leaving the vehicle mangled.

Locals rushed him to Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital. He was later referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment, where on-duty doctors declared him dead, reports BSS.

OC Abdus Salam said police were dispatched to the scene and recovered the severely damaged motorcycle. Saidur Rahman's body was taken to his hometown in Bauphal later that night.
