Sherpur, 12 Feb - Two farmers on Wednesday died from electrocution while working on a power-run irrigation pump in a rice field, police said.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 am in the Chattarkandi area of Bajitkhila Union in Sherpur Sadar Upazila.

The victims were Akram Hossain (45) and Abdul Hanif Mia (56), both farmers from the village.

Mohammad Ujjal Mia, local UP member of Ward 3, said, "Farmer Akram Hossain went to his Boro rice field in the morning. While trying to start the irrigation pump, he got electric shock and was in pain. At that time, farmer Abdul Hanif Mia rushed to help Akram Hossain but got electrocuted as well. People working in nearby fields cut off the power line and rushed both to the district hospital, but they died on the way."
