A man who was undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital also died following the death of his two sons while inhaling toxic gas trapped inside a septic tank in Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria upazila.
Monjur Alam, another son of the deceased, said his father breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital around 3am on Thursday (August 10).
Earlier, two brothers died after inhaling toxic gas trapped inside a septic tank in Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria upazila on Wednesday (August 9) night.
The incident took place at Bahaddarkata area of BMchar Union of the upazila at around 11 pm.
The deceased were identified as Shahadat Hossain, 50, and his brother Shahidul Islam, 22. They are the sons of Anwar Hossain of Bahaddarkata area of BMchar Union of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station Javed Mahmud confirmed the development.
Quoting locals and witnesses, OC Javed Mahmud said Shahadat and his brother Shahidul fell sick when they climbed down into a septic tank at Bahaddarkata area around 11pm.
As they were not responding, their father also went down inside the tank in a bid to rescue the duo, but they all became ill inhaling the toxic gas inside the tank, the OC added.
Being informed, locals rushed to the spot and recovered them.
Later, they were taken to Chakaria upazila health complex where duty doctor declared two brothers dead and their father Anwar Hossain was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Later, he died while undergoing treatment there.
