Two workers electrocuted in Kishoreganj

The accident occurred at 12 noon in front of Islami Market in Purana Thana area of the town.

The deceased were Afazul, 34, son of Golap Mia of Jinarail village under Choddosato union in Sadar upazila and Sabbir, 25, of Rampur union in Hossainpur upazila of the district.

According to eyewitnesses, several workers were engaged in construction work at the site when they were lifting a bundle of steel rods to the upper part of the building. 

At one point, the bundle came in contact with an electrical line outside the building, causing Afazul and Sabbir to be electrocuted.

They died on the spot.

Kishoreganj Fire Service official Murshed told BSS that a preliminary inspection suggested the workers were electrocuted after the iron rods used in the construction work came in contact with an external electrical connection of an air conditioner.

However, the exact cause of the accident would be established after an investigation, he said.

Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan said the incident was being investigated and necessary legal action would be taken if a written complaint was filed, subject to the findings of the investigation.

The bodies were recovered and sent to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital morgue, reports BSS.
