
The deceased were identified as Ferdous Alam, 62, Morshed Alam, 18, Mifta, 17, and Munna, 32, the microbus driver. All of them were residents of North Maizpara area under Eidgaon union in Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.
They were returning to Cox's Bazar from Chattogram after attending a wedding ceremony when the accident occurred.
According to witnesses, the covered van, coming from the Shah Amanat Bridge, was making a U-turn at high speed in the College Bazar area on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway when it collided with the microbus travelling from Ukhiya towards Chattogram around 1:20am.
The accident left two people dead on the spot and eight others injured, police said.
On information, police and a Fire Service team rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and took them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where two of them, including the microbus driver, succumbed to their injuries.
Officer-in-Charge of Karnaphuli Police Station Nur Ahmed said the accident disrupted vehicular movement on the highway for some time, reports UNB.
