Eight people were seriously injured after a Dhaka-bound passenger bus lost control and overturned on the Mawa-end slope of the Padma Bridge in Munshiganj on Monday afternoon.

The accident disrupted traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane for nearly 45 minutes before the overturned bus was removed and the road was cleared.

Muhammad Shofiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the “New Green Line Express” bus was travelling to Dhaka from Magura when the accident occurred.

He said the bus lost control due to excessive speed while descending the bridge, hit the roadside railing and overturned.

Two rescue teams from Sreenagar Fire Station soon arrived and rescued the injured passengers from the bus.

The injured were taken to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex in fire service ambulances.

The injured were identified as Saifullah, 80; Md Lutfar, 63; Rebeka Khatun, 40; Nur Islam, 46; Rashida, 40; Fatema, 7; Saif, 23; and Arafat, 13. -UNB
