Six crew members suffered burn injuries after an explosion in the engine room of a fishing trawler anchored in the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram today.

The injured are Cadet Engineer Ashiquzzaman Tamim, greasers Rubel and Shah Alam, winch operator Nizam Uddin, diver Russell and sailor Siddique Ahmed.

According to the trawler's captain, Zubair Mahmud, the vessel had been anchored at a mooring buoy in the Sampanghat area of Sadarghat since June 29 after returning from a deep-sea fishing trip. At around 1:15 pm on Tuesday, a loud explosion in the engine room triggered a fire, leaving the six crew members on duty with burn injuries.

The injured were rescued and taken to Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital for treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of the Naval Police's Sadarghat Police Station, Mizanur Rahman, said two of the victims are in critical condition and are being transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment, while the remaining four are undergoing treatment at CMC Hospital, reports BSS.

Captain Zubair Mahmud filed a general diary (GD) with Sadarghat Police Station following the incident.
