4 killed in Tangail truck-pickup collision

Four people were killed in a collision between a truck and a pickup van in Sakhipur upazila of the district early today.


The accident occurred at around 4:00 am in the Kalia Ghonarchala area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Noor Nabi, 65, of Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur district, helper Rafiqul, 18, of Patnitala upazila in Naogaon district, Sagar, 22, of Kendua upazila in Netrokona district, and Sumon, 26, of Mirpur-1 area in Dhaka.

Police and local sources said the pickup van, carrying chickens, crashed into the rear of a bamboo-laden truck that had been parked on the roadside, leaving four occupants of the pickup van dead on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sakhipur Police Station Helal Uddin confirmed the incident.
The bodies were recovered and brought to Sakhipur Police Station, the OC said, adding that efforts were underway to contact the victims' family members, reports BSS.

The bodies would be handed over to the families after completion of the necessary legal formalities, he added.
