Lalmonirhat, September 16 – Alamgir Sheikh (34) from Patgram, Lalmonirhat, has been detained by Indian authorities and had his tourist visa canceled due to anti-India posts and comments made on social media.

On Monday morning, Ahsan Habib, in charge of immigration police at the Burimari land port, confirmed the incident.

Alamgir Sheikh, son of Nuru Sheikh from the Jumma Para area of Patgram, traveled to India on a tourist visa on September 3.

According to immigration police sources, Sheikh posted anti-India content and made anti-India comments during a live broadcast on social media while he was in India. This activity caught the attention of Indian security officials, who identified him and subsequently detained him at the Changrabandha immigration checkpoint on Sunday evening. After interrogation, Indian authorities canceled his visa and handed him over to the Burimari immigration police.

Sheikh's Facebook posts reveal his controversial statements. In a live video from Agra's Taj Mahal, he said, "In 1971, India helped us a lot and also separated us from Pakistan. Now, we, the people of Bangladesh, want to divide India. Long live Manipur. I want my Bengal back. West Bengal, Tripura, Assam should be returned to Bangladesh."

Indian authorities acted on these statements, leading to his detention and deportation. - UNB
