Tigress beat Sri Lanka once again

As expected defending champions Bangladesh again beat Sri Lanka by 5-0 goals in their return match of the four-nation South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-20 Women's Championship held at Bashundhara Kings practice ground -2 in the capital today (Saturday).


In the day's match, Puja Das scored a brace in the 45+2nd and 74th minutes while Kanon Bahadur, Trishna Rani and captain Afeida Khandaker supplrted her with a lone goal each for Bangladesh in the 26th, 86th and 90+7th minutes respectively. 

With the win, the hosts currently dominate the league maintaining their all-win record with 15 points from five matches while Sri Lanka yet to open their account playing the same number of matches.

The tournament favorite Bangladesh earlier thrashed Sri Lanka by 9-1 goals, edged past Nepal by 3-2 goals, defeated Bhutan 4-1 and again beat Bhutan 3-0 in the return match.

All losers Sri Lanka, on the other hand, los 9-1 to Bangladesh , 5-0 to Bhutan, 7-0 to Nepal and again 7-0 against the same opponents in the return match.

Bangladesh will play their last match against Nepal on Monday (July 21).

Only four teams -- Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka --are participating in the 6th edition of the tournament. The team that tops the league table after a double round-robin will be crowned champion.
