Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), in collaboration with Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC), organised a symposium on sustainable technologies to support Bangladesh’s transition to clean energy.
BEPRC Chairman (Senior Secretary) Mohammad Wahid Hossain attended the event as chief guest, while MIST Commandant Major General Md Nasim Parvez served as chief patron and BEPRC Member (Additional Secretary) Dr Md Rafiqul Islam joined as special guest.
The programme brought together policymakers, academics, industry leaders and students to explore practical pathways toward a sustainable and secure energy future.
In his address, the chief guest outlined a forward-looking vision for expanding renewable energy and stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government, academia and industry. He also called for the practical application of research findings to accelerate the country’s clean energy transition.
Major General Md Nasim Parvez emphasised that energy security is fundamental to long-term national development, noting that sustained economic growth depends on a reliable and uninterrupted energy supply.
Dr Md Rafiqul Islam highlighted ongoing policy initiatives aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels, promoting renewable energy adoption and diversifying energy sources. He also underscored the importance of developing skilled human resources to support the sector’s transformation.
In his opening remarks, Brigadier General KM Mustafizur Rahman, Head of the Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering Department, pointed to the importance of knowledge-sharing platforms and highlighted MIST’s ongoing research and innovation in sustainable energy technologies.
The technical session featured five expert speakers who presented on emerging technologies and research opportunities in the power and energy sector.
More than 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with faculty members, participated in the symposium, reflecting strong academic interest in clean energy issues.
Organisers said the event reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing research excellence, technological innovation and collaborative partnerships to support Bangladesh’s transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
